Nothing built by man is more romantic than a
tall ship. And nothing at sea is
more glorious than the sunrise and sunset, with
sails full and a gentle, following
sea.
Until one has been there, it can not be fully comprehended.
You and the ship
are one. You feel a bond with every one on board.
People you have never met
are soon like family. You wonder why you never thought
of living "before the
mast" when you were younger. New places, new
faces, changes in latitude...
Nothing could be finer!
But if you could pry into the private thoughts of
a seasoned crew, you would
likely hear tales that quickly change any lingering
envy to total admiration.
Danger and, yes, death are part of the life of a
sailor. It is'nt openly discussed,
but it is understood. It is also part of the romance
of the sea.
The legacy of those who sail these tall ships is
the continuation of their trade.
Their deeds are measured by their courage and their
passion. Embrace their
visions! Honor their idealism! Their legacy continues
as long as tall ships still
set sail.
Godspeed, crew of the Fantome and all those who
have gone before you.
